Beth Kassab of the Orlando Sentinel wrote today about an Orlando success story: Voxeo Corporation. Voxeo, based in Orlando, provides IVR and VoIP telephone service.
I think too much media attention and public policy discussion is given to trying to lure branch offices of out-of-state hi-tech companies to Central Florida. I think more effort (and resources!) should be given to cultivating home-grown companies that offer hi-value jobs. Instead of trying to convince the next Scripps to move here, we should be building the next Scripps. Of course, that requires venture capital and strong investments in education (science and math in particular.) And time. And vision. But it also starts with celebrating the success stories that already are here, and encouraging more.
